Sightseeing and indulgence: great tips for your city trip

Spring whets our appetites for a holiday. How about a city trip that combines sightseeing and indulgence? That’s exactly what you’ll find in the Vapiano cities we introduce below.

Marseille – the city by the sea

A trip to Marseille, France’s oldest city, is always worthwhile. You can take a stroll along the Vieux Port (old harbour) and enjoy the view of the water. Or you can visit the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica which stands on the city’s highest point – the 154-metre-high Garde Hill. And for the football fans among you, there’s also something to see: the Marseille stadium – one of the Euro 2016 hosts.

Enjoy green Gothenburg

Gothenburg, a port city on Sweden’s west coast has an abundance of one thing in particular: nature. You can stroll through landscaped gardens to your heart’s content at the Slottsskogen municipal park, visit the zoo, or take a look at the Natural History Museum. Those who want a little more action will find plenty to do at the Liseberg theme park, the biggest of its kind in Scandinavia.

Hungary’s treasure chest: Budapest

Back in 2014, English singer-songwriter George Ezra was already singing “My house in Budapest, my hidden treasure chest” about the Hungarian capital. And he’s right: the city really is a treasure chest as far as sightseeing is concerned. Firstly there’s the 56 million litres of water that flow through Budapest’s 118 thermal springs every day. The city’s many thermal baths are a real treat. You should also be sure to photograph the Roman ruins at the Aquincum Museum and the statues in Memento Park. If you still have a bit of cash left over at the end of your city tour, you’ll want to head for Budapest’s main pedestrian thoroughfare, Vaci utca, which is home to some great shops.

São Paulo – heading for the sun

We’re off to the sun! São Paulo, Brazil’s biggest city, welcomes you with numerous sights. Be sure to see the Mercado Municipal, one of Brazil’s most fascinating markets. You can buy just about anything in the gigantic covered hall from fruit to ready-made meals. Incidentally, because Brazil is home to the biggest Japanese community outside Japan, you’ll find a Japanese quarter in São Paulo’s Liberdade district, with a huge red arch, Japanese lanterns and great restaurants. Worth a visit!

Welcome to Miami!

Where art, design and culture meet: Miami’s Design District is a creative area with shopping streets and lots of restaurants. It’s even more colourful in Wynwood – a veritable paradise for painters and artists. Just a few minutes from the Design District, it is home to large buildings that are covered in bright urban graffiti. There are also numerous museums and galleries. Apart from art and culture, here’s another highlight for your Miami city tour: take a boat trip through the swamps of the Everglades National Park, where you can even see alligators. Don’t miss it!
